    2002 Tibra Awards

    Dear friends:

We are launching the second annual Tibra Awards, a community supported program for honoring distinguished young Libyan women. The first round of the program honored five excellent finalists, awarded an academic scholarship of $1000, and was well received by the community worldwide. With your direct participation and generous support, we hope this year to grow the program and award two academic scholarships.

Dr. Gamal Khalil, who was a judge in the first round, has joined the founders to form the Board of Trustees. The legal process has been started to establish the Tibra Foundation as a non-profit organization on the local and federal levels. The attorney in charge estimates the process for federal registration will take a few months. A financial summary and budget are continuously updated on the Tibra site.

You are invited to join the Tibra Awards celebration of community pride in Libyan young women. The program needs your help in raising funds, recruiting judges and encouraging nominations. Our goal is to have five judges, five finalists, and raise $2,500. We believe the rewards of presenting our community in a positive light and investing in our young leaders are well worth the effort.
